--Danielle (Drew Barrymore) is the step daughter of the Baroness. She’s treated as a servant after her father dies.
--Baroness Rodmilla (Anjelica Huston) is the evil step-mother. She’s trying to get her daughter to marry…

The Setting
This takes place in France in the early 1500’s.
The Film (2:00:53)
You’ve heard the story of Cinderalla; a girl is made into a servant by her step-mother when she falls in love with a prince. The prince doesn’t know her true origins and spends a great deal of time trying to find her. This is that story but without the fairy godmother and the Disney magic.
Movie Review
It’s the story of Cinderella so it’s pretty tough to mess up. The story was easy to follow but over 2 hours seemed like it could get a bit long. I do think that the story was told well enough to keep it going most of the time. Drew Barrymore’s English accent was annoying and I wonder why the accent was needed when these were French people. If you’re going to give them English accents at least put the story in England. Anjelica was postively evil as the step-mother and she did a great job in her part. Dougray Scott was serviceable, though I don’t think he’s done anything of note with his career afterwards. Some of the touches were ones I enjoyed (Leonardo Da Vinci makes an interesting turn here as the ‘fairy godmother’ character) and overall it’s a decent enough fairy tale story for you to sit through with your wife.
DVD Features
A) Extras
1) Theatrical Trailer (1:50)
It’s the trailer so there’s not much to speak of.
B) Audio/Video
This is your typical Dolby Digital offering and both widescreen and fullscreen versions are presented here. I watched the fullscreen and it was okay for what it was, a dialogue-oriented movie.
C) Packaging / Liner Notes
This was just a DVD case and that’s all.
D) Easter Eggs
None
Overall Review
This is as bare bones a DVD release you can get. The only reason to really buy this is if you absolutely love the movie. Even if that is so, I wouldn’t pick this up for anything more than a few bucks due to the lack of extras. It’s a good movie but this is a DVD where you pay for the movie and nothing else. This gets the standard bare-bones DVD release grade.
